Bayahibe
Bayahíbe is a town in the Dominican Republic, located about 10 miles (16 km) east of La Romana on the shore of the Caribbean Sea. Founded as a fishing village in 1874 by Juan Brito and his family, who came from Puerto Rico, the town is now a tourist destination.
Tourism
Bayahibe does not have the length of Punta Cana's walkable beach, and therefore far fewer resorts.
This is where the tours to Saona Island leave, the number 1 object of desire for Punta Cana tourists; speedboats arrive in 20 minutes (those coming from Punta Cana face a two-hour bus ride to go, two hours to return). Local hotels offer tours.

There are coral gardens and shipwrecks just off the coast. The most famous wreck is that of Captain William Kid, a 17th-century Scottish pirate. Nearby was an Underwater Museum, with corals that were studied and later returned to the bottom of the sea.

On the surface, the region offers the East National Park, an environmental reserve where are preserved several graves inhabited by the Taíno Indians, who occupied the region at the time of the discovery by Columbus. The most famous cave, however, lies outside the park, midway between San Pedro de Macorís and La Romana: the Cueva de las Maravillas, with important cave inscriptions.

Still nearby is the curiosity of Altos de Chavón, a replica of a medieval city built by an Italian architect. The place has an archaeological museum, a design school and shop.

The capital Santo Domingo is a two-hour drive away.
Gastronomy
Fish is the most consumed in the Bayahibe area. The most common is eating fresh fish by the grill in the small restaurants that seem to be scattered along the beaches.
Native cuisine, Creole root and Spanish, African and Asian influences. But also Japanese sushi, Italian cuisine and high fusion cuisine.

Fish dishes, such as heels, are traditional, and also seafood, with the absolute lobster reign. The lobster is consumed by grilling, accompanied by the incomparable Dominican rum, the characteristic (cold) beer.

It is a wide range of specialties, in which salads and sweets are mixed, as well as the use of delicious fruits and the influence of Caribbean and Creole gastronomy, which has conquered a cuisine based on truly delicious dishes. No one can leave Bayahibe without eating the popular sancocho, a kind of stew.
Weather
The climate is tropical. It rains much less in winter than in summer. According to Köppen and Geiger, this climate is classified as Aw. The temperature here averages 26.6 ° C. The average annual rainfall is 970 mm.
